There’s a lot of ways to systematically see
the city. Some people travel to all 468
subway
stops (which I’ve done) or walk every street in
Manhattan
(which I haven’t). My goal is to visit every census tract
in the city - all 2217 of them. Updates, maps of my
progress, and thoughts on the city here.
The
World - Escape from New York
I love New York. But sometimes
you’ve got to take off for a little while. No other city I
know quite measures up, but a lot of them come close. The
ongoing travelog of everything about everywhere else here.
Directions NYC
It doesn’t matter if I’ve lived there for
years or arrived that afternoon; I’m the kind of person who can count
on an “excuse me, do you happen to know where...” pretty much every
time I’m walking down the street. In 2004, I decided to
keep track of every time I got asked directions for that entire year:
who asked, where they asked, if I knew the answer. A map of
the instances in New York, and a few stats about results coming soon...
Originally, my goal was to walk across every
bridge in New York (I’ve done all 24 major bridges with a
pedestrian path, and 26 out of 35 total). Then it became to
climb every bridge in New York (11 out of 27 with a significant
superstructure, including 8 out of the 15 that surround Manhattan
Island). Then... well let’s just say accomplishing this
goal was a lot more fun than the others. How you too can
become of member of a much more exclusive version of the Mile High club
here.
This isn’t about you. Really. I promise.
